Results of the call for PhD scholarships 2016

Overall, 231 proposals were submitted for the call of 2016, out of which 61 proposals were cancelled due to theirincompliance with the call terms and conditions. Proposals were cancelled by N177 Decree of SRSNF Director General, dated September 6, 2016. The evaluation panels nominated 76 proposals for funding (Decree of SRNSF Director General).   Decree of SRNSF Director General on the winning project proposals The winning project authors must submit a document from the specific higher educational institution proving the status of a PhD student, at the foundation office no later than September 23, 2016, 18:00 . Documents submitted after deadline will not be considered!

Horizon 2020 training for Eastern Partnership Energy Experts at the Energy Networking4Innovation Brokerage Event – apply now!

This grant scheme financially supports the participation of local researchers from Eastern Partnership countries in a Horizon 2020 training and brokerage event in Bratislava, Slovakia on 29-30 November 2016. The training on 29 November will be conducted back-to-back with the Energy Networking4Innovation Brokerage Event (a side event to the SET Plan Conference 2016) on 30 Novemer 2016. Maximum funding per grant is 1,500 EUR. IncoNet EaP  has developed a grant scheme to financially support the participation of local researchers from Eastern Partnership countries in large-scale brokerage events and other similar activities in EU Member States or Associated Countries, which are related to Horizon2020. Such events provide an excellent arena for researchers to liaise and develop synergies, therefore the participation of researchers from the targeted countries will increase their opportunities to get involved and be taken onboard in consortia set up in EU MS/AC countries. It will also allow the researchers to make their institutions and/or their research networks better known. This specific grant supports Eastern Partnership participation in the Energy Networking4Innovation Brokerage Event in Bratislava and in addition offers a Horizon 2020 Training, provided by IncoNet EaP partner RCISD . Important dates: Deadline for submission:  20 October 2016 Energy Networking4Innovation Brokerage Event: 30 November 2016 Registration deadline brokerage event: 20 November 2016 IncoNet EaP Training: 29 November 2016, provided by RCISD Maximum of days covered by the IncoNet EaP project: 28 November – 1 December (3 nights) Selection Process Formality and eligibility check The Local IncoNet EaP Partner will be responsible for the formality and eligibility check. Applications which do not comply with the eligibility criteria will not be considered within the evaluation process. Evaluation The evaluation, based on a specified scoring matrix (see below) will be carried out by the Local Partners, the Task Leader and the Coordinator. Funding Requirements The Grants will be paid by RCISD as a reimbursement for travel costs (travel, accommodation, visa costs). The Grant cannot exceed 1,500 euro. If the cost of participation exceeds this amount, the additional cost must be borne by the Grant recipient. Georgian-German Day of Science

Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation and Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) of Germany organized the  Georgian-German Day of Science. The event took place at Tbilisi State University, on September 19. Participants of the Georgian-German Day of Science discussed state of the art and  future cooperation perspectives between the two countries and highlighted successful projects implemented by German and Georgian teams. The German delegation was represented by Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) Germany, Helmholtz Association (HGF), Leibniz Association, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG), German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ), Volkswagen Foundation, Helmholtz associations and leading scientific research institutions. The second part of Georgia-Germany Science Day offered bilateral meetings (Market Opportunities) to interested stakeholders. Research oriented institutions of Georgia as well as |Germany disseminated information on their activities and major opportunities. Meeting with the representatives of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Bonn Office

Director of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Bonn Office-  Prof. Dr. Keiichi Kodaira and the Deputy Director Yuriko Nishizaki visited Georgia as part of Tbilisi Science and Innovation Festival.  On September 16, 2016 an introductory meeting between the JSPS Bonn office representatives and Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (SRNSF) Director General took place in SRNSF Conference hall. Dr. Keiichi Kodaira and Yuriko Nishizaki introduced various JSPS initiatives that invite Georgia’s researchers to do collaborative research with the Japanese scientists, to get involved in mobility schemes and opportunities. It was highlighted that a special online tool  http://researchmap.jp might help Georgia’s researchers to search their respective collaborators in Japan. Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) was founded in 1932. It is one of the oldest organizations in Japan supporting the development of science.

On September 11, 2016, the seasonal school “Chemical and Mathematical Aspects of Environmental (atmosphere) Monitoring” was opened at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU). Participants where welcomed by school chair Academician Bezhan Chankvetadze, Deputy rector  of TSU Professor  Joseph Salukvadze, First Deputy Minister of Environmental and Natural Resources Protection Dr. Teimuraz Murgulia, Deputy Director General of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation Professor Tinatin Bochorishvili, head of National Environmental Agency Mrs. Tamar Bagratia, Dean of the San-Diego State University-Georgia Professor Kenneth Walsh, Director of Juelich Research Center’s (Germany) Institute of Energy and Climate Research Professor Andreas Wahner and the  Dean of the Faculty of the Exact and Natural Sciences of TSU, Professor Ramaz Khomeriki. More than 60 registered participants from TSU, Sokhumi State University, Agricultural University, Georgian Technical University, National Environmental Agency and other institutions take part in the school.  The school activities continue in this week and lectures will be given by professors of Jülich Research Center, University of Cologne (Germany), San Diego State University (USA) and TSU. On the last day of the schools the participants will have the opportunity of presenting short presentations based on the knowledge acquired during the school and the best two presenters will be selected from TSU-participants for internship at Jülich Research Center.

The goal of travel grants is to support Georgian scientists to participate in international activities in order to strengthen the local scientific potential by exchanging information and experience between Georgian and international scientists. Thus, to help Georgian scientists to integrate into international scientific communities. Overall, 74 proposals were submitted for the call of 2016, out of which 8 proposals were cancelled due to their incompliance with the call terms and conditions. Proposals were cancelled by Decree of SRNSF Director General. The Project Evaluation Committee evaluated the submitted project proposals in line with criteria approved by N30 resolution of Government of Georgia dated February 20, 2008, and nominated 45 project proposals for funding.
