SRNSF announces call for development of structured PhD programs

The aims of the call for development of doctoral programs: Enhancing academic quality of scientific research and training of new academic staff  in higher educational institutions and scientific research centers, on the bases of the existing scientific potential; Enhancing quality of PhD programs in line with international standards by means of developing new doctoral programs in higher educational institutions; Strengthening interdisciplinary scientific cooperation of higher educational institutions and supporting development of multidisciplinary PhD programs; Promoting inter-institutional and intra-institutional cooperation at the doctoral level of education; Early career support of young scientists and PhD students; Supporting internationalization of doctoral education through strengthening international cooperation of higher educational institutions.   The call of 2016 is open to the following fields of science: Natural Sciences Engineering and Technology Medical and health Sciences Agricultural Sciences Humanities Social Sciences Georgian Studies Project can be interdisciplinary and include maximum three scientific sub-fields (see field of science and technology classification). Georgia-Julich Joint Programme for Master and PhD Students, Jointly Funded by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation and Forschungszentrum Jülich

Purpose of the joint program is to enable Georgian students the access to the world-leading scientific research center Julich to experience and conduct frontier research in fundamental and applied sciences; assist Julich in recruiting the best and the brightest students from Georgian universities and prepare Master and PhD theses for further progress of Georgian science.    The Foundation and Julich will provide 3 Georgian Master and 3 PhD-students the opportunity to carry out a Master/PhD thesis related research at Julich during their internship, and to establish long-term cooperation with researchers at Julich as well as in German universities or non-university research institutions in the following agreed research fields: 1) Mathematics; 2) Information Technologies; 3) Natural Sciences; 4) Engineering Sciences; 5) Life Science and Health. Application submission procedure: By the agreement between the Foundation and Julich of June 16, 2015, Master and PhD students of Iv. Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (SRNSF) announces call for travel grants, from October 1, 2016 - until March 15, 2017

The goal of travel grants is to support Georgian scientists to participate in international activities in order to strengthen the local scientific potential by exchanging information and experience between Georgian and international scientists. Thus, to help Georgian scientists to integrate into international scientific communities. Travel Grants will enable scientists of Georgia to participate in international scientific activities worldwide. Travel Grants are funded from the Georgian state budget. Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation announces call for PhD scholarships 2016

The main goal of the program is to develop intellectual potential of the country and prepare highqualified science staff.  Sub-goals of the program are: targeted use of intellectual potential existing in the universities, creating relevant conditions for the research, collaboration between PhD students and higher education institutions abroad. Objective of the project is to identify successful, talented, young researcher and contribute to bringing his/her doctoral research project to international standards. In addition, the grant will contribute to young researchers’ integration in international project and increase of Georgia’s scientific research quality. Call for PhD scholarships 2016 is open to various fields of science ( sub-fields are listed in the classification ) : Natural Sciences; Engineering and Technology; Medical and health Sciences; Agricultural Sciences; Humanities Social Sciences; Georgian Studies. Program participation is announced through open competition. The foundation will fund individual grant proposals only. Eligibility: Georgian citizen PhD students of higher educational institutions, enrolled in in accordance to Georgian legislation.  PhD students who are the winners of 2013-2014 call for PhD scholarships - are not eligible to participate in the program. For implementation of the project, researchers can use material-technical base, which belong to the higher educational institution, scientific-research institute or other legal/physical body. Implementation of the winning projects will start from October 2016. Project duration: minimum 6 months, maximum 36 months. Requested funding from SRNSF for one project should not exceed 21 000 GEL (a year) . Joint Call for Proposals by SRNSF and TUBITAK

Joint call for Proposals by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and The Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (SRNSF) is now open. The call aims to develop cooperation between Turkish and Georgian higher educational institutions, scientific and research centers, strengthen collaboration between the team of researchers, facilitate scientific and research mobility of the two countries’ scientists. The call offers funding for two categories: Joint research and development projects Short term exchange of individual scientists The call refers to the following fields of science: Natural Sciences Engineering and Technologies Medical and health sciences Agricultural sciences Social Sciences and Humanities Joint research and development projects should be submitted by the team of Georgia’s scientists and Turkish scientists together : the team of Georgian scientists submits proposal to SRNSF, while team of Turkish scientists submits proposals to TUBITAK.  TÜBİTAK and the SRNSF do not match the collaborating partners.   The following Citizens of Georgia can submit a proposal for the short term exchange of individual scientists: MA students, PhD students, person under the age of 35 with the Master’s or equivalent degree; Persons with doctoral or equivalent degree. The maximum duration of joint research projects is 24 months. The maximum amount of funding requested from SRNSF is GEL 30 000 for 2 year projects, GEL 15 000 for one year projects. Short term exchange of individual scientists should not exceed 10 calendar days and the maximum funding from SRNSF shall amount to GEL 4 000. Required documentation can be submitted to Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (SRNSF) through the following email address: srnsf-tubitak@rustaveli.org.ge   Deadline for submitting documents through email is September 26, 16:00. After completion of the online application procedure, Georgian scientists must submit the required signed documents to the foundation by September 29, 16:00. The call “scientific prize for outstanding scientists/groups of scientists” announced by LEPL - Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation aims to encourage the involvement of Georgian and international researchers in the field of science and technology. Also to acknowledge an exceptional contributions in Georgian Studies and to promote science in Georgia.   The prize awarded for the outstanding achievements and participations in the field of science and technologies will be :   The prize will be awarded in accordance with 4 categories of scientific classificatory of SRNSF (Equal to the EUROSTAT/OECD classificatory) Exact and Natural sciences; Engineering and technology; Medical and health sciences; Agricultural sciences; Social sciences; Humanities; Georgian studies.   Single prize will be awarded in one category . LEPL - Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation Announces Collaborative Research Project Call (compatriots call) 2016

Collaborative research grant with compatriots as an instrument for scientists funding, is an opportunity for the collaboration between scientists from Georgia and compatriots. The overall objective of the Collaborative Research Projects call (compatriots call) is to intensify the process of involvement of successful Georgian scientists working abroad into joint activities in order to improve standards of research in Georgia. Close cooperation with successful Georgian scientists working abroad will give an opportunity to local researchers to raise their awareness on state of art in developed countries and to adopt modern research methods. The implementation of the joint projects will enable scientific Diasporas’ representatives to have permanent business contacts with home country and to make use of their knowledge and experience to raise the level of science in Georgia. An important component of the Program is involvement of young scientists in research projects, designed to support development of their scientific potential and integration in international scientific network. Collaborative Research Project Call (compatriots call) is open to various fields of science: Natural Sciences; Engineering and Technology; Medical and health Sciences; Agricultural Sciences; Humanities Social Sciences; Georgian Studies The foundation will fund institutional grant proposals only. Eligibility: Host and/or co-participant Institution  – Legal Entities of Public Law, established in accordance to the Georgian legislation, non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entities registered in Georgia, aiming at developing scientific research; higher educational institutions; Key personnel  – Master’s students, PhD students, applicants having Master’s degree or PhD or an equivalent degree;   Outsourcing proposed projects’ evaluation to the international independent experts. Therefore, project proposals and relevant documentation must be submitted in two languages – English and Georgian. English version of the proposals are sent to the international experts for evaluation. Applicants (PI and the host institution) are responsible for the quality of English translation.
