"Science starts from school - research participation"

On September 19, 2018, the opening ceremony of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation for science grants - "Science starts from school - research participation" - the winner of the project "Environmental study of the radiation and the sun Nutrition by microcomputer measuring station " was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi state university Elevter Andronikashvili Institute of physics. where attended teachers of Vladimir Komarov N199 Tbilisi Public School of Physics and Mathematics: Indira Natriashvili and Mikheil Berishvili and pupils of the same school on 10th and 11th grade: Nikoloz Tsimakuridze, Nikolozi Tsimakuridze, Levan Gogrichiani , Tinatin Tutberidze, Tamaz Sanikidze, Mariam Japaridze, Mariam tchkheidze, Mariam Tsurtsumia, George Kedia, Ketevan Begiashvili, Ketevan Khatchapuridze. The event was also attended by the representatives of Rustaveli Foundation, Davit Natriashvili- Physics teacher of the village of Bediani. Academician Giorgi Japaridze, Chairman of Nuclear Energy and Radiation Security Problems Commission of Georgian National Academy of Sciences. Lia Chelidze- Secretary of the Commission. Zaza Rostomashvili, Deputy Director of Elefther Andronikashvili Institute of Physics. Director of High Energy Physics Institute, Prof. Mikheil Nioradze, professor of theoretical physics department of the same institute Gela Devidze, NGO sector representatives - Irakli Mchedlishvili and Tamar Pataraia. The Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation announced the State scientific grant competition - "Science starts from school - research participation" won our school, physics teacher Indira Natriashvili, scientist and professor of physics and mathematics Revaz Shanidze, PHD student Gogita Papalashvili by the Project "environmental radiation background in the study and monitoring of the microcomputer measuring sasdguris means", in result school obtained a grant and at the end of the project school will have the radiation measuring station, which will be able to measure in real-time, it will be able to measure, process information received and monitor the environment in local and international databases. The mobility of the measuring station will allow us to carry out measurements of the radiation background in various regions of Georgia. The project will contribute to the creation of such station in the schools of Georgia and the creation of a network of radiation monitoring schools.

Information Day on the European Research Council (ERC) grant schemes

On September 24, at 15:00 information meeting on the ERC grant call was held at the SRNSFG in frames of the “Science and Innovation Festival 2018”. At the meeting, the representatives of the foundation reviewed the ERC work programme 2019 , presented the ongoing ERC grant calls as well as the Foundation’s plans in terms of supporting the Horizon 2020 activities in Georgia. ERC is one of the major components of the EU framework programme for Research and Innovation “Horizon 2020 ” with the total budget of 13 billion, which was founded in 2007 as the first pan European organization granting the excellent science around the Europe and beyond. The representatives of the foundation are national contact points (NCP) of the ERC. Detailed information about the European Research Council can be found here.

Information for the applicants of the Applied Research State Grants Call 2018

Within the frame of the Applied Research State Grants Call 2018, announcement of the first stage results and electronic registration dates of the full proposals will be postponed. Accordingly, electronic registration will not begin on September 25. Information on the amendments in the decree N 99 (approved by the SRNSFG Director General, dated as of July 13, 2018) and on the new terms will be announced on the SRNSFG web-page.

International Conference “South Caucasus Chalk Circle 2”

On September 12, 2018 Ilia State University hosted the International Conference of Georgian Studies.  The conference organizers are: Ilia State University, University of Maryland (USA) and University Paris (France).  The conference is funded by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. International Conference of Kartvelology was founded by the initiative of foreign Georgian studies specialists in 2016. The first conference was held in Paris in the same year. On September 2-11, 2018, by the support of Ilia State University, the summer school of related thematic was held with the conference on September 12-14, which aimed Georgian studies internationalization, creating common platform for Georgian and foreign scientists, Georgian and Caucasian studies promotion in the foreign universities.   Together with Georgian scientists, 15 scientists working on Georgian language problems in American and European universities are participating in the conference.

8th Georgian-German School and Seminar in Basic Sciences

On August 20-25, 2018, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University hosted the joint 8th Georgian-German School and Workshop in Basic Science (GGSWBS) with the participation of Jülich research center (Forschungszentrum Jülich) and Georgian partner universities (AUG, ISU, GTU and TSU) This event is a joint target programme of Shota Rustaveli  National Science Foundation of Georgia and German Jülich research Center (Forschungszentrum Jülich). The subject of this event was science at multidisciplinary SMART|Labs in Georgia". the school and seminar focused on three main components: Symmetries in Subatomic Physics, devoted to the subject of one of the fundamental direction in natural sciences - the dominance of matter over antimatter in the universe; Atmospheric Research and Modelling, related to the SMART|AtmoSim_Lab, Medical Imaging and Biomarkers. In this workshop, international experts participated from the accelerator groups, particle physicists and technology from various international collaborations (JEDI, Borexino, JUNO, PAX, ...). The goal of the school and workshop “Science at multidisciplinary SMART|Labs in Georgia" has been successfully achieved. Topics of the lectures fully covered the school thematics. The conference work envisaged summarizing the achievements in these fields and further improvement of the future cooperation between science and technology in the two countries. For Bachelor's, Master's and PhD students the thematic lectures were conducted in natural sciences and engineering by directors and leading scientists of the research center. During the event, the lectures were delivered by director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics at the Research Center Hans Ströher, director of Neuroscience and Medicine Institute Nadim Jon Shah, director of Neuroscience and Medicine Institute Bernd Neumaier, directors of electronics and electrical engineering institutes Natour Ghaleb and Stefan van Waasen, Directors of Climate Change and Atmospheric Research Institute Wahner Andreas and Astrid Kiendler-Scharr. As part of this event, 11 best students were selected from the various scientific fields - Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering Technology. They will have internship for 1 month in Jülich research center (Forschungszentrum Jülich). Internship is fully funded by the German side.

The Results of Conference Grant Call 2018

Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia disseminates information about Conference Grant Call 2018 results. 26 applications have been registered in the conference grant competition for 2018. Due to the competition conditions, the competition commission has rejected 3 applications for the project. Applications rejected by the Commission (Available in Georgian) The Commission evaluated the applications submitted in compliance with the Criteria approved by the Government of Georgia Resolution No. 149 of July 9, 2008 and revealed 4 applications for funding.
